French Appliqué Technique
Lil’ Squirtz was inspired by the past, from a French appliqué
technique called Broderie Perse (broh dur ee purse), meaning Persian
embroidery. Broderie Perse is a highly regarded technique of cutting
motifs or patches from printed fabric and stitching them onto a
solid fabric. Traditionally, the raw edges are turned under or
covered with decorative stitching. Lil’ Squirtz took this technique,
which dates back to the early 1700‘s, and gave it a modern twist to
make their own line of clothing, all which have a frayed - edgy -
funky patch.
Custom Colors
With names like Blueberry, Chocolate, Melon, Marmalade, Plum, and
Mustard...we’ve created our own colors that look as yummy as they
sound. Our unique, earthy colors are custom dyed especially for Lil’ Squirtz. We pride ourselves on developing rich, beautiful colors to
complement both boys and girls...babies and toddlers.
Detailed Workmanship
Lil’ Squirtz does not mass produce our clothes, therefore slight
variations in shape and design of patches make each item unique.
Each patch is individually hand cut from only the highest quality
cotton. Lil’ Squirtz is 100% made in the U.S.A. and takes pride in
knowing our reputation is built on detailed and superior
workmanship. With our passion, talents, and a “quality first”
approach, Lil’ Squirtz produces clothes that we are proud to have on
our own children.
•••
Who is behind the creation of Lil’ Squirtz Clothing Company and the
unique design elements added to every product in our line? A
talented seamstress with an extensive knowledge of fabric and a love
to sew and create. A creative, driven mother of two, who kept
feeling the entrepreneur drive inside. These two talented women, who
happen to be mother and daughter, came together with an idea...an
original, unique idea that hasn‘t been done in children’s clothing.
Lil’ Squirtz was born in 2006 out of a love for children’s fashion
and fabrics, a burning artistic drive, and a mother and daughter
team who always dreamt of running a business together.
Shannon Stewart, Co-Founder, CEO
At a very young age Shannon learned to sew at the side of her mom,
fostering her love for fabrics and her creative mind. Shannon always
had a passion inside her to do something great and build a
successful business from the ground up. Her experience in both small
and large business is an asset to the company. Shannon holds a
Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Western Washington University and
brings her extensive experience in design and marketing to Lil’ Squirtz. Her son, Van, was the inspiration behind the unique idea of
Lil ’Squirtz. Shannon knew she would need the talents of her mom
alongside her...and together, as both a team and family, they have
created Lil’ Squirtz.
Sharon Spencer, Co-Founder, Creative Director
Sharon was born into a long line of tailors and seamstresses and has
been sewing and doing needlework since she was a very young girl.
Seeing her Grandmother work as a custom seamstress, designing for
business women in San Francisco through the 50’s and 60’s, fostered
her love and interest in sewing. Sharon has more than 30 years of
professional sewing experience and has a passion so deep for this
beautiful craft. She brings her passion and knowledge into each
piece of fabric that is carefully hand selected. Her attention to
detail, superior workmanship, and eye for color show through in our
entire collection. Sharon knew immediately this was going to be
something great and something she could share with her daughter as
both a business partner and most importantly as her Mom. She is so
proud to be working alongside her daughter.
